Meet the Owner

A background in floral design, real estate, and saving lives

Latchkey Mercantile owner, Brigitte, has over 40 years of floral design experience beginning in high school when she made Christmas door swags to sell door to door, to present extensive experience in Wedding and Event designs.

After graduating high school she attended a course at Michael’s School of Floral Design; that began her life of Home Decor and Wedding/Event Floral designs.

Brigitte has held various retail positions, including work at a Decorator shop and Floral Shop. She also was a designer at AAFES Floral Shops and Alexandria Floral Company.

When Brigitte found herself as a single mom in 1983, she found a position in the Alexandria Sheriffs office and subsequently a career in the Fire Department, beginning with volunteering in Prince William County, then a lateral transfer to the Alexandria Fire/EMS department as a Career Paramedic.

She never left the decorating and floral world far behind…decorating rooms and continuing many wedding and event jobs, by word of mouth.

In 2000, when Brigitte retired from the Fire Department after an injury, she worked  as a Real Estate agent, which brought her back to a continuing passion of getting involved in home staging,  decorating homes for the Culpeper Christmas Home Tours for several years and other various events that commissioned her floral and decorating designs.

Now, she has come full circle, returning to the retail world. Her hope is to create and provide unique items for the shop and to provide “over the top” event decor!!

Whether you are decorating a small nook or having an event for 200 people…the goal is to provide quality home and event decor!

“I love this store! Great gifts and decor, perfect special orders and a fun friendly hostess!” Carrie D.
